LeakCatch Alternative: Two Ways to Trace Who Leaked Your Content

Short answer: LeakCatch and Markedfile both embed an invisible, per-recipient mark so you can tell whose copy leaked. LeakCatch is built around delivery: subscribers sign in through a single link and each gets an automatically watermarked copy, with a download audit log, and paid plans add keyword monitoring and DMCA notices. Markedfile is built around marking and detection: you create marked copies of images and PDFs and send them however you already do, and your files are processed in memory and not stored. If you want a delivery system for a subscriber base, LeakCatch fits well. If you want to mark files for any channel, or you share PDFs with clients or teams, Markedfile is the simpler fit.

What LeakCatch does

According to its site, LeakCatch is aimed at creators selling memberships and content packs. It:

  • Watermarks PNG, JPEG, WebP, PDF and ZIP content with a DWT (wavelet) forensic mark that encodes the subscriber's ID.
  • Delivers through one link: subscribers verify their identity with OAuth and receive their own watermarked copy, with ZIP packs streamed on the fly.
  • Logs every download with subscriber ID, IP address, user agent and timestamp.
  • Extracts the subscriber ID from a suspected leaked image.
  • Monitors keywords across 500+ platforms and files DMCA notices on paid plans.
  • Keeps content in Cloudflare R2 storage, which it describes as your own storage.

Public pricing: Free $0 (50 subscribers, 1 GB, no monitoring), Starter $9 per month (300 subscribers, 20 GB, 1 keyword, daily scan), Pro $29 per month (1,500 subscribers, 100 GB, 5 keywords, hourly scan) and Business $49 per month (unlimited subscribers, 10 keywords, scans every 30 minutes, Google de-indexing, dedicated support and API access). We did not find public API documentation.

Where LeakCatch is the better choice

  • You sell to a subscriber base and want each download marked automatically, tied to a verified account.
  • You want a download log with IP and timestamps.
  • You want monitoring and DMCA notices bundled with watermarking.

Where Markedfile fits better

  • You send files through your own channels and do not want recipients to sign in anywhere.
  • You share PDFs with clients or teams, not just subscribers, and want a shared business workspace.
  • You prefer that your files are not stored.
  • You want a documented API for marking and detecting.

What to keep in mind

No watermarking tool can guarantee detection in every case, and Markedfile's detection is heuristic. A very small crop (below roughly 256 px of a detailed area), a heavy edit, or a copy that was never marked may not be identifiable. Images and video frames under 96×96 px are rejected; everything else uses the same pattern. A crop needs roughly 256 px of a detailed area as an approximate minimum. Most 90° rotations still detect. Resizing survives on detailed photos only for images marked after a recent improvement; older marked images need to be marked again. A marked video on Business and Enterprise can still be traced after re-encoding, trimming or downscaling to 720p, even with metadata stripped; a screenshot of a frame is weaker evidence. For PDFs, a screenshot can be checked if it shows roughly 200 pt of a ticket, 160 pt of a photo, 320 pt of a slide, or the top half of a text page; dense text on its own isn't detected. A PDF screenshot is best effort and is not guaranteed. The PDF mark is now invisible, and PDFs marked before this change aren't compatible, so re-mark them. Markedfile identifies a copy, not a person, so treat a match as evidence to follow up on.

LeakCatch also describes its mark as surviving compression, screenshots and cropping; like any watermark, results depend on what the leaked copy went through, so test with your own files.

How it works with Markedfile

  1. Upload the original image or PDF and create one marked copy per recipient.
  2. Send each person their own copy through the channel you already use.
  3. If a copy leaks, upload what you found (a file or a screenshot) to Detect and see whose copy it matches.

FAQ

Is Markedfile a LeakCatch alternative? Yes for tracing which copy of an image or PDF leaked. No for subscriber delivery with OAuth, download logs or DMCA monitoring, which LeakCatch includes and Markedfile does not.

Which one is cheaper? Both have a free plan and paid plans around $9 to $49 per month, with different limits: LeakCatch by subscribers, storage and keywords; Markedfile by active files and workspace.

Does either one store my files? LeakCatch keeps content in Cloudflare R2 storage to deliver it. Markedfile processes file contents in memory and keeps only the identifier and metadata.

Can I trace a file I already sent? Not with either tool, unless that copy was marked before it was sent.

Can either guarantee detection? No. Small crops, heavy edits and unmarked copies can make any watermark unreadable.
